Chingola, Copperbelt Province
Chingola sits on the Nchanga orebody and one of the largest open-pit operations in Africa, alongside concentrator and leach processing infrastructure. Open-pit mining at that scale means an enormous mobile fleet, and mobile fleet maintenance is where torque tooling gets used hardest and treated worst.
On the Copperbelt, and the gateway to the North-Western mines.
Mobile fleet maintenance is hard on tools
Haul truck and shovel maintenance is the most demanding environment a torque tool lives in. Tools are used at the top of their range on large fasteners, in dust, in the wet season, frequently outdoors, and by crews under time pressure. Drift between calibrations is real and measurable, and the as-found data usually proves it.
For operations like this the annual calibration default is often wrong. We will recommend a shorter interval where the data shows it, and a longer one where it does not, which is the only defensible way to set an interval.

Common questions
Should mobile maintenance tools be calibrated more often?
Frequently, yes. Tools worked at the top of their range in dust and wet drift faster, and the as-found readings on the previous certificate are the evidence that settles it either way.
