Luanshya, Copperbelt Province
Luanshya is one of the oldest mining towns on the Copperbelt, working both the Luanshya and Baluba orebodies with underground and open-pit operations and a concentrator. Long-established operations tend to run mixed-age tooling fleets accumulated over decades, which is its own maintenance problem.
On the Copperbelt, south of Kitwe and Ndola.
Mixed-age fleets
An operation that has been running for decades does not have a tooling fleet, it has several, layered on top of each other. Tools from four brands and three eras, some with no asset number, some with a certificate from a supplier who has since closed, and a register that stopped matching reality some time ago.
The first useful piece of work on a fleet like that is almost never calibration. It is a survey and a marking exercise, so there is something to calibrate against and somewhere to put the result.

Common questions
What if our tool register is out of date?
That is the normal starting point. A survey and marking exercise comes first, and the calibration programme is built on what is actually on site rather than on what the register claims.
