Mufulira, Copperbelt Province
Mufulira combines a long-established underground mine with a smelter and acid plant complex. Smelting and acid handling put tooling into a corrosive atmosphere that behaves nothing like a mechanical workshop, and shutdown work on that plant is heavily bolted, heavily scheduled and unforgiving of a tool that turns up out of certificate.
On the Copperbelt, north of Kitwe.
Smelter and acid plant work
Process plant shutdowns are the least forgiving environment for tooling logistics. The window is fixed, the work is bolted, and the critical path runs through a handful of joints. A tool that fails on day one of a smelter shutdown cannot be replaced from a workshop three weeks away.
We plan against the shutdown calendar: the fleet is serviced and certified before the window opens, the tools on the critical path are identified and proved first, and cover is arranged for the ones that matter most.

Common questions
Can you support a shutdown window directly?
Under a service contract, yes, including breakdown cover and exchange tooling so a failure during the window does not stop the work.
